McDyess still looking at options

Several reports state that former Pistons player Antonio McDyess is weighing his options and has several on the table after the Denver Nuggets bought out his contract. Originally sent to Denver as part of the Chauncey Billups-Allen Iverson trade, McDyess has long been speculated to be on his way back to Detroit.

In comments published by the Detroit News, Pistons coach Michael Curry said he could really use McDyess to fill the need for a big man that can come off ther bench and put up points, while also limiting other players' minutes.

"We miss Antonio McDyess more than anything," Curry said. "He changed the makeup of our team."

Meanwhile, the Gaston Gazette reports that Charlotte Bobcats coach Larry Brown would be interested in McDyess, but is being careful not to disrupt McDyess' decision-making process.

"I hear he's wanted to reach out to me," Brown said of McDyess. "Hopefully, I'll be able to talk to him. But the last thing I want to do is pressure him. (But) he would be a perfect fit for this team. I think it would be a great thing to have his presence in our locker room."

Besides the Bobcats and Pistons, it is believed that McDyess is entertaining offers from at least one other team.

Howard to return to Denver?

When the Nuggets made the trade with Detroit to bring Chauncey Billups to Denver in exchange for Allen Iverson, they took Antonio McDyess and Cheikh Samb in the deal.

To make room on the roster for those three players, the Nuggets waived Juwan Howard.

Now, with McDyess on the verge of unrestricted free agency (and a rumored return to Detroit), Nuggets coach George Karl tells the Denver Post there is a chance the Nuggets could bring Howard back into the fold.

Howard "definitely can help us," Karl said.

Celtics interested in McDyess?

The Boston Herald reports that the Celtics are watching the situation between the Denver Nuggets and Antonio McDyess very closely, and that they might be interested in bringing in the veteran power forward if the Nuggets buy out his contract.

McDyess was reportedly unhappy with the trade that sent him from the Pistons to Denver along with Chauncey Billups. Many believe he will return to Detroit after the mandatory 30-day wait period expires, but several sources are confirming that the Nuggets and McDyess are negotiating a buyout that would give him more than $6 million over two seasons. If McDyess gets the buyout from Denver, the Celtics could make him an offer, in an attempt to fill the void left by P.J. Brown's retirement at the end of their championship season.
